Richard Huff
Professional

Mr. Richard (Dick) Huff spent more than 45 years in the golf business, from head pro to general manager to golf course owner. He earned many honors along the way and also gave back to the game along the way. He was the driving force behind the startup of the Southern Nevada Golf Association’s Clark County Amateur and Clark County Junior tournaments at Winterwood Golf Club. The latter events would eventually blossom into the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association and help start the careers of PGA Tour players Robert Gamez, Edward Fryatt, Stephanie Louden, Craig Barlow, and Scott Piercy, among others.
In his early days, Mr. Huff played high school golf in Florida and was the m

edalist at the 1954 Florida State Golf Championship. He was the runner-up in the 1957 Pan American Golf Tournament in Miami and qualified for the USGA Publinx Championship in 1954 and 1956. Mr. Huff’s lowest competitive round was a 66 in the 1960 Florida Open.
Mr. Huff was well-known around Las Vegas as he had stints at the Desert Inn Country Club (1961-1965), Winterwood GC (1965-1976), the Tropicana (1980-1990) and the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort (1998-2004). In a show of appreciation, Mr. Huff received a spontaneous and long standing ovation at the 2003 VegasGolfer Magazine Fairway awards when he was introduced as a special guest in the audience.
“Mr. Dick Huff is one of the most storied and meaningful PGA of America golf professionals in the history of golf in Las Vegas,” said Bill Bowman, Editor of VegasGolfer Magazine. “By helping to create the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association he basically laid the groundwork for hundreds of Las Vegas kids to play golf in high school, receive scholarships to college, and for a lucky few, to play professionally. He was respected by all.”
