Christina Hixson

Biography

Christina Hixson is known as the pioneer of UNLV men’s golf.

She was an early donor upon the arrival of Dwaine Knight as the coach in 1987 which helped set the foundation for the team winning the 1998 NCAA championship.

Hixson graduated from high school in Clarinda, Iowa. When she graduated, she borrowed money from an uncle to attend business school in Nebraska.

She went to work for Ernst F. Lied and moved to Las Vegas as his assistant in 1960.

When Lied passed away in 1980, Hixson became the sole trustee of the Lied Foundation Trust.

  • She and the Lied Foundation were honored in 2013 as Ruby Palladium members as donors who have contributed more than $25 million or more to UNLV.
  • Hixson led the Lied Foundation and helped grow it into one of the largest foundations in Nevada providing support for everything from medical centers to animal shelters to community centers.
