Don Welch


Don Welch has made his presence felt all over the Las Vegas golf scene.

Welch turned professional in 1961 and became the head pro at the Desert Inn in 1964.

He was the Dunes Country Club director of golf from 1976 to 1990 and coordinated the Tournament of Champions.

He was on the planning committee for the first Las Vegas PGA Chapter and, through the years, served as the chapter’s secretary, vice president and president

List of Achievements

  • Grew up in Whitefish, MT., and played golf at the University of Montana.
  • Served in the Army and was stationed at the Presidio where he played for the United States Sixth Army golf team. He was the Sixth Army Golf Champion.
  • Welch was named the SNGA Professional of the Year in 1986 and was honored with the PGA Lifetime Achievement Award from the Las Vegas Chapter of the PGA.
  • No matter his work site, Welch supported high school golf and the SNJGA.
